Student Dress Code
The School Board recognizes that, within certain limits, each student’s mode of dress and grooming is a manifestation of personal style and individual preference. The Board will not interfere with the ability of students and their parents to make decisions regarding their appearance except when their choices affect the educational program of the schools or the health and safety of the student or others. As a part of learning to live within appropriate limits, as one must do in all workplaces and professions, students are expected to follow the Student Dress Code. Cleanliness, modesty and appropriate clothing for the academic environment are minimum standards. Clothing that has sexually explicit messaging or symbols, condoning of violence or suicide, or suggestive of drug/alcohol/tobacco use is not acceptable. Clothing will be worn in the manner in which it is intended.
Athletic/activity clothing worn during physical education classes, competition and practice will be given special consideration due to the participation requirements governed by the Wyoming High School Activities Association.
District personnel have the responsibility of protecting the health and safety of pupils and maintaining proper and appropriate conditions conducive to learning.
A student’s dress or grooming shall not:
- Present a hazard to the health or safety of the student or to others in the school,
- Materially interfere with school work, create disorder, disrupt the educational program,
- cause excessive wear or damage to school property.
- prevent the student from achieving their educational objectives,
- include, but not limited to any type of clothing, accessory and /or jewelry that is worn with the intent to convey affiliation with a criminal gang.
Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. It is recommended that students wear hard or rubber-soled shoes, commonly known as dress or casual shoes, athletic court shoes or sandals.
